As President of IPSSC, I am glad to be the part of Singapore's biggest astronomy event! It was a pleasure to work closely with Dr. Abel Yang and Dr Remus and attend insightful talks and workshops by the brightest minds in Astronomy and Astrophysics in Southeast Asia. Our members at IPSSC had a blast at this year's Astro Symposium! During this incredible event, we explored fascinating topics that have captivated astronomers for decades:
  • Fermi's Paradox: Delved into the profound question of why we haven't encountered extraterrestrial civilizations despite the vastness of the universe
  • Drake's Equation: Examined the mathematical framework for estimating the number of communicating civilizations in our galaxy
  • Cutting-edge Theories: Attended presentations on the latest developments in astrophysics and cosmology
We also set up and manned a telescope, through which we were able to spot some incredible celestial objects:
  • The Moon - Observed lunar craters and surface features in stunning detail
  • Saturn - Witnessed the magnificent ring system that has fascinated astronomers for centuries
  • Jupiter - Spotted the giant planet and its atmospheric bands

For the success of this event, I would like to thank the National Gallery Singapore for graciously letting us utilise their premises! The venue provided the perfect backdrop for our astronomical discussions and observations. We look forward to seeing the at next year's Astro Symposium The event reinforced my passion for astronomy and the importance of scientific collaboration in advancing our understanding of the universe. Events like these remind us that curiosity about the cosmos is a universal human trait that brings people together from all walks of life.
Stay curious, keep looking up, and remember - we are all made of star stuff!
